Candle Care & Safety Advice

Top notes are the first hints of scent when the candle is first lit – usually herbal / citrus scents.  Heart notes (floral and herbaceous) complement the top notes and slowly drift into the Base Notes, usually woodsy or warm scents to give a balanced and harmonious aroma to the candle

• Allow it to make a full melt pool before extinguishing (let the wax melt to the side of the glass). This could take up to 4 hours, depending on the size of the vessel
   

• The candle has a memory, and the first burn dictates the subsequent burns, so a full melt pool will give a level top and help to create a good even burn. This will make the candle much longer
   

• Burn it for a maximum of 2-3 hours (1-2 hours for the 60g Votive) after the first burn - any longer can cause the wick to move or slant

• Place the glass or tin on a heat resistant flat surface (or use a candle plate)
   

• Avoiding putting it under a shelf as it can be a fire hazard
   

• Keep away from pets and children
   

• Remove any debris or matches from the candle top as this could increase the size of the flame
   

• Avoid burning it near a draft or flammable materials
   

• If burning multiple candles, keep them at least 10cm apart
   

• Never leave it unattended
   

• Stop burning your candle when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom - keep an eye on a burning candle when the wax is low

• Extinguish the candle fully (ideally with a candle snuffer) and straighten the wick
   

• Check the wick is no longer than 5mm long – it should self-trim, but you may need to shorten it if it gets too long. It’s best to do this when the wick has cooled

• Keep it in a cool dry place and cover it with a candle lid to protect the wax from dust, which can dull its scent and cause problems during burning
   

• Use your candle in a reasonable time so that you don’t lose its scent and the benefits of the essential oils
