Over the wintertime I have been renovating a summerhouse to make a creative space in my garden. The building wasn't in a great state especially the front porch which was pretty rotten. I contemplated replacing it with a brand-new structure but I think this was just putting off what needed to be done. The hut is in a great position with glimpses of blue sea and it's sheltered by mature trees; it also faces south so it will be a lovely spot in the warmer months.
Thinking that I would need specialist tools and possibly a tradesmen also delayed getting started. Eventually, I decided to take a trip to the mainland to Ikea for some storage units and matting for the floor. This gave me the push that I needed to fix up the outside. In the end, I used a few basic tools to replace the rotten boards and railings on the decking - thanks to James at Cladach Sawmill in Brodick for cutting the wood to the exact width, depth and length, it wasn't too difficult to get the job done. It may not be perfectly finished, but I'm happy with it - and who knew that woodwork could be so satisfying! The Botany Workshop is now finished and my idea is that local folk and visitors can visit my website and 'Click & Collect' from my workshop. It's a nice place for a bit of creative work and my spaniel dog likes to join me for a biscuit.
